It’s that season again — the backcountry is starting to accumulate a good amount of snow, and folks are heading to the backcountry to ski, snowshoe, snowboard, and otherwise have a wonderful time enjoying our beautiful winter wonderland in one of the best places in the world to ski. Unfortunately, Colorado is also one of the worst places in the world for avalanche deaths.
You owe it to yourself to learn about backcountry safety and understanding avalanche danger. Fortunately, you can get a start by attending a free Avalanche Awareness class. Here are just a few being offered in the near future:
Boulder

November 30, 2006 – 7 to 9 PM
Join Brad Sawtell from the CAIC Summit County Office in this FREE avalanche awareness presentation at The Trailhead backcountry store. This two hour presentation will cover the basics of what you need to know to head out into the mountains this winter.

Select Monday nights
Avalanche Awareness Forum Series – Join the San Juan Field School and Telluride Ski Patrol on select Monday nights to hear a variety of guest speakers. This series is designed to encourage avalanche safety and awareness. These evening discussions take place 5-6 times throughout the winter season. Avalanche Beacon Rescue Clinics – Our free Avalanche Beacon Rescue Clinics are offered 4-6 times each season.
