Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation

January 4 – February 23, 2007
Aurora History Museum

We recently said our farewells to a President known for his honesty and modesty:  Gerald R. Ford.  Yet, when we think of honesty in a President, the first man to come to mind is, of course, Honest Abe.

Forever Free” is a traveling exhibition making only one stop in Colorado during its seven-year tour of our country.  This exhibit reexamines President Lincoln’s evolving thoughts about slavery throughout his political career and the conditions that led to the Emancipation Proclamation.

It is presented using panels that reproduce rare historic documents, period photographs, memorabilia, and cartoons of the era.

The library will also provide a number of free activities during the run of this display, including movies, book discussions, and story times for children.  Stop by one of the Aurora libraries to create a quilt square to be added to the “Forever Free” quilt (no sewing required; art supplies will be provided).  Challenge your mind with a Civil War Quiz.  Come by to view a movie related to Abraham Lincoln and/or the Civil War on a Saturday morning (11 AM).  Listen to John Voehl as he recreates President Lincoln in a program called “Abe Lincoln comes to life“.

A complete list of special events connected to “Forever Free” and sponsored by the Aurora Public Libraries can be found here.
