Elk Fest (Estes Park)

posted Thursday September 6, 2007

Bugling elkSeptember 29-30, 2007

Eeeeee…squeek…bleeee…eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

That’s the sound of wild elk bugling.
OK, so it’s my interpretation of wild elk bugling.  It’s a sound you have to experience in person.

Come to Estes Park for the weekend and learn more about these magnificent creatures with the weird-sounding calls.

Elk Fest features bugling competitions (I don’t think you’re allowed to bring your own bugle, trumpet, or even a kazoo for this one), educational areas, seminars, music by the Elktones, Mountain Man Rendezvous, Native American storytelling, music and guided elk-viewing tours. There will also be vendors displaying artwork, handmade elk-ivory jewelry, scrimshawed antler knives, elk antler lamps and chandeliers, elk hide pillows, silver and gold jewelry, elk antlers and other exceptional merchandise.  Food vendors will serve elk cuisine and other goodies.

Elk Fest offers visitors a chance to view elk in the wild during the rutting season, as well as expand their knowledge of elk. Learn more about elk, their habitat and how to observe them in the wild.
