Longmont Jazz Festival

posted Wednesday July 26, 2006

Longmont Jazz FestivalAugust 13 – 20

This sounds great already:  “Dancing is encouraged”.  Bring it on!

Estes Walker on BassFrom a special Women in Jazz show, to a jazz clinic with Peter Sommer and Art Lande; a jazz Art show to an open Jam Session — Swing, New Orleans-style jazz, Big Band, Brazilian Jazz, Bebop, Dixieland, Avant-garde, Blues, traditional, and mainstream jazz — there’s something for everyone in Longmont at the week-long Jazz Festival.

The “Women in Jazz” presentation on Wednesday, August 16 (3 – 5 PM) sounds especially intriguing.  Marguerite Juenemann (vocals), Ellyn Rucker (piano) and Lelah Simon (bass) perform some of the greatest music of two centuries.  Their performance will be introduced with a short slide show on fascinating jazz women from the late 1800s through today.
