Free GPS / Map & Compass classes (Lakewood & Denver)

posted Wednesday August 30, 2006

2nd Friday of the month at the USGS Map Sales area at the Federal Center in Lakewood
(exceptions:  1st Friday in November; no class in December)

or

Every Friday (map & compass only) at the REI Flagship store in Denver1 PMTopo map

Feeling a bit lost in the high country?  Learn to use a topo map & compass (Federal Center class from 9 AM to 11 AM) and/or figure out how to use that cool new GPS you got for your birthday (Federal Center class from Noon to 4 PM).

Learn from the pros.  If the folks at USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) don’t know about using maps, then we don’t know who does!

Learn to take a compass bearing, adjust for magnetic declination, and triangulate your position.  Set waypoints, plot coordinates on a map, and learn what a UTM is, and why it is simpler to use than latitude & longitude!  You may never be lost on a hike again.GPS with butterfly

Reservations are required for the classes at the Federal Center!  Call 303-202-4640 or email: gpsworkshops@usgs.gov

More details on the classes can be found by clicking here.
