What:
Van Briggle Pottery tour
Where: Colorado Springs
When: Monday -Saturday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Whether your interest is in witnessing the process
of creating fine pottery, or you’re a train buff interested in
touring an old round-house built in 1889, include a stop at the Van
Briggle Pottery studios. Step into this building listed on the
National Register of Historic Places, and take a self-guided tour,
watching as clay is transformed into beautiful pottery using designs
and styles that have been famous for over 100 years.
The
gorgeous glaze colors of the pottery borrow from ancient Chinese
ceramics, while the designs are a blend of Art Nouveau, popular at
the time Artus and Anne Van Briggle first founded their own pottery
studio, and themes of nature, inspired by the beauty of the
surrounding area. The Van Briggle studio is one of the oldest in the
U.S., and their work has won numerous international awards. Their
vases, bowls, tiles, dishes, candle holders, bookends, and figurines
are prized by collectors.
As you make your way to the showroom at the end of
the self-guided tour, enjoy reading about the history of the company
as well as the history of the train round-house building.
